The following dispatch* from the lieutenant-general commanding the armies in the field is sent you so that you amy furnish the information asked for and enable the commanding general to answer it as soon as possible. Please include the losses, if any, of the troops of the Ninth Corps serving with you.

General Potter's picket-line holds that house in the corn-field and are entrenching themselves on very good line. The rebels have left the place where they were last night.
