GENERAL: I am directed to relieve General Mott, who occupies the trenches to your left, as far as the plank road at least. Mass all your reserve force to the left for that purpose. If you can find General Mott's headquarters (I do not know where they are) get a staff officer from him to show you the best to his (Mott's) line, and relieve as large a part of his division as you can. General Carr will send two regiments, about 600 men, to relieve the remainder. Report when move commences. I telegraphed for a staff office to you. As soon as and wait his arrival) let me know what force you send.
