General HARDEE:

Captain Culver, who has been scouting since Sunday, reports main body of enemy moving down west side of Oconee; that a cavalry force of 600 to 1,000 has crossed, and was at Island Creek at 6 p. m. yesterday, moving slowly towards Shorte. Island Creek is sixteen miles west of Shorte. One hundred and sixty-three prisoners have been brought [in].

General Wheeler with 10,000 men now crossing Oconee River, twenty miles below bridge, at Blackshear Ferry, and coming to assistance of General Wayne. Enemy have burned long trestle-work on other side of bridge.

General Wayne's courier reports main body of enemy moving through Linton on Sandersville. This is a point three miles from railroad station. Tennille, which station is twelve miles from Oconee.
