Lieutenant Baker has just returned from scout. He met the enemy's cavalry yesterday at General Cone's residence, in Bulloch County, and fell back to Jenks' Bridge. Late in the afternoon he was attacked there, and compelled to fall back to Black Creek, in Brayn County, where he made stand until the enemy crossed the creek above, about 2 p. m., and he was ordered by Colonel Prather, Tenth [Eighth] Confederate Cavalry, to retire to Harper's Bridge, on Cannouchee. Movements indicate that a force of the enemy is making it s way around headwaters of Cannouchee for this section. He was informed that there was a division of infantry and 500 cavalry at Statesborough on Saturday.

Three companies South Carolina cavalry militia, under Major Crump, headquarters probably Allendale, Barnwell district, are observing Savannah River and obstructing roads from ferries. Communicate such orders to them as may be proper.
