CAPTAIN: I have the honor to report that the following troops will be in readiness to embark for City Point at 6 o'clock this p. m.: One hundred and ninth Regiment, U. S. Colored Troops, 873 men and 31 officers; detachment One hundred and seventeenth U. S. Colored Troops, 103 men and 1 officer; detachment One hundred and seventh U. S. Colored Troops, 127 men and 3 officers; total, 1,102 men and 36 officers. Please inform me if transportation will be ready.

I have frequently before found that newspaper authority was not reliable. I am very glad that Custer has been breveted and Crook made a full major-general. I could not believe the papers; therefore asked if it was possible that Crook had been overlooked.
