In obedience to the orders from the President of the United States, dated War Department, November 10, 1862,* the undersigned assumes command of the Fifth Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The following-named officers are announced as the staff of the major-general commanding: Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Dickinson, assistant adjutant-general; Major William H. Lawrence, aide-de-camp; Captain William L. Candler, aide-de-camp; Captain Alexander Moore, aide-de-camp; Captain Harry Russell, aide-de-camp; Lieutenant Colonel J. S. Godfrey, quartermaster; Lieutenant Colonel A. S. Austin, commissary of subsistence; Surg. John Moore, medical directo as heretofore. They will be obeyed and respected accordingly. All orders and regulations for the government of the corps will continue in force until further orders.
