GENERAL ORDERS,
HEADQUARTERS FIRST ARMY CORPS, Numbers 50.
November 24, 1862.The provost guards of the division of this army corps will be statiouned on the different roads leading from the camps to Frederickburg. They will see that no one passes into the town except general officers and the commanders of the Reserve Artillery. The officers in charge of the provost guards will make frequent patrols out into the country and arrest all soldiers absent from their camps without the authority of division commanders. It is understood that many depredations and excesses have been committed by soldiers scattered in this way thoroughout the country, and the provost guards are directed to take prompt and energetic measures to arrest them and return the parties to their commands.
