I have directed Captain edwards, assistant quartermaster, Bridgeport, to transfer the gun-boats built there by him on account of quartermaster to Acting Lieutenant H. A. Galssford, U. S. Navy. This by order of General Webster. See you telegram of May 5 to me. Is this right?

1864.

The gun-boats constructed by the quartermaster's department in the Tennessee River above Muscle Shoals having been turned over to the Navy Department for better service and discipline, will nevertheless be supplied by the army quartermaster and commissaries of all military posts and stations, and though still belonging to the army; and when the commander of any of the gun-boats needs assistance of any kind or detachment of soldiers to aid him in any enterprise, the commanding officer of any military post on or near the Tennessee River will furnish the details if it be possible.
