Let the trains at Kingston drop back to Cartersville, and hold the trains at Marietta ready to carry troops to any point needed.

I have ordered all trains at Kingston back to Cartersville, and have trains at Marietta ready to move when called for. I am also holding two trains at Resaca. If you desire them elsewhere they will be ready to move at any time.

Telegram just received. Shall I send an engine with Captain Van Duzer's telegraphic material from Kingston to Resaca! I have a small locomotive at Rome which would be able to do the work he requires.

General McArthur will send up to Allatoona and beyond two trains of cars loaded with soldiers to join four more trains at Cartersville, loaded also with troops from Rome and Kingston. Let Captain Van Duzer send with one of these his telegraph wire and repair party. Risk your locomotives and cars as little as possible till the end of this raid.
