A scout sent out this morning was fired on near Woodbury by a party of rebels. Citizens report the rebels moving this way, their force not known.

A report from Colonel Patton is that a company of East Tennessee cavalry was captured by the rebels near Lebanon at 3 o'clock this morning.

Major THOMAS T. ECKERT:

No news from Sherman to-day. Slocum pushed reconnaissance within two miles of Atlanta, finding only cavalry, and not much of that. He had only a brigade and moved slowly, but will know by daylight whether enemy still occupies Atlanta or not.

Portion of Wheeler's force said to be across Cumberland, and coming toward Gallatin, Tenn. Wheeler sent word to commander of post he had captured two companies of his command; would soon capture remainder.
