Commanding Division:

GENERAL: The enemy is moving around my left flank, and are now very near the road leading to General Armstrong's headquarters. I have not learned what force is thus flanking me. My skirmishers are being forced back by cavalry, and cannot discover what is in its rear. My position here is now no longer tenable, as I have no protection either on the right or left. I am moving back.

Besides the above, invoices from Selma were received; that on the 1st instant, 200,000 cartridges, caliber .57, were forwarded to Atlanta. Thirty thousand cartridges, caliber .57, I informed by Colonel Wright, was to be finished yesterday evening, and very day the same number will be manufactured. Five thousand rounds of ammunition is in progress of manufacturing at Augusta, and is daily, parts of it, forwarded to Atlanta. The 20-pounder Parrott ammunition, 400 rounds, is preparing at Atlanta, and I am informed will be ready this evening.
