Your dispatch of 8.30 received. Colonel Beckham, commanding artillery, has gone to look to that arm. Engineers have also been sent to assist at that point. If your skirmish line be driven back, please make the connection complete with General Steveson's line.

The general desires you to send all the guns against the enemy's working parties on the Marietta road that can do execution. It is of great importance that the enemy do not gain a lodgment in front of that point.
