General ARMSTRONG:

GENERAL: About 100 cavalry, all but one mounted on with horses, have just passed through enemy's breast-works, and have moved off to their right; a thin line of skirmishers is slowly advancing on me; a shell occasionally comes over. I have ordered all my reserve up and one company with it is at the church.

Brigadier-General ARMSTRONG:

GENERAL: Colonel Pinson has just sent in a verbal message by Adjutant Johnson that a brigade of infantry had advanced on Captain Taylor, who is on the left, and had driven him about 200 yards. I have ordered Colonel Maxwell's regiment to the front, and the balance of the brigade to saddle.
