Major General Edward Johnson reported for duty here to-day. I am daily expecting Major-General Loring to return, and would, therefore, respectfully suggest that as Major-General French has applied to be relieved from duty with this army, his wishes be complied with, and Major-General Johnson assigned to his division. The application of Major-General French was forwarded august 11, by mail.
