general Hood desires that you sent Lewis' brigade to Jonesborough by rail. Cars that carried reynolds' brigade to that point ordered to return for that purpose. This force is intended to co-operate with General Armstrong in repelling raids. March the rest of your division to Rough and Ready to rebel raids from the direction of West Point railroad. Acquaint yourself with the approaches in the quarter. Keep couriers at telegraph office at East Point. It may be well to fortify your position, and also direct General Lewis to do the same. Look to movements upon the Fayetteville road. You will probably find good position with at Rough and Ready and line along Mud Creek.
