Brigadier-General JACKSON, Commanding Cavalry:
General G. W. Smith will arrive at Griffin to-night, where he will remain with his command. General Lewis has been ordered to mount his brigade and report to you. While making his preparations, you can place him at Barnesville, or such other point as you may think best. Put yourself in communication with him. General Ferguson's command is at McDonough and this side. Morgan is ordered to report to you at Griffin.

Brigadier-General FERGUSON, Commanding Cavalry:
General Hood directs me to inform you that the right of his infantry rests on the McDonough and Jonesborough road, which is the same as the McDonough and Lovejoy road. Extend well out to the right, covering the roads thoroughly. You will please place yourself in communication with the infantry commands on the right. You will draw your supplies from Griffin.

General Hood directs that you send Morgan to Griffin, to report to General Jackson. He will retain Colonel Clinch's regiment and Colonel Miller's, who has heretofore been reporting to General Cleburne.

LOVEJOY'S STATION, GA., September 4, 1864.
Brigadier-General IVERSON, Commanding Cavalry:
Move with all your available force across Flint River to Rocky Mount, Meriwether County, and take position at Rocky Mount to observe the enemy between Flint River and West Point railroad. You will please keep General Jackson informed of all movements of the enemy, as well as these headquarters.
