Commanding, &c., Shelbyville:GENERAL: Your telegram to General Wheeler, directing him to concentrate his forces, has been received. General Wheeler left here on the cars to-day for the purpose of seeing you; he left me in command General Morgan has been directed to concentrate his force as rapidly as possible at this place, where he can receive such orders as you may desire to give him. That portion of my command that has been at Liberty and Sparta will be moved to Hoover' Gap as soon as possible.
The Carthage force and Wilder's mounted brigade, from the best in formation I can obtain, left Liberty this morning for Woodbury.
My scouts that have returned from the enemy's rear report a concentration of the enemy's forces at Murfreesborough.
If you do not desire General Morgan's forces to move to this point telegraph you wishes to me at this place.
I will proceed in person to Hoover's gap as soon as my forces arrive.
