We telegraphed you some days since for our full quota of men under the two calls for 75,000 and 300,000 volunteers. We have as yet had no official information of our quota. Will you answer?

In answer to your telegram of this date, our enrollment is nearly complete. The approximate quota of the town will be made next Tuesday and preparation made and orders issued for the draft. We hope to be ready by the 3rd of September.

Your telegram respecting Springfield rifles has been referee to Assistant Secretary Watson, having special charge of ordnance matters under direction of the General-in-Chief. He will reply to you on the subject. I am rejoiced to see the energy with which you are pushing forward your troops, and need scarcely add that every aid the Department can give will be furnished.
