Honorable E. M. STANTON:

Dispatch informing me that 800 Prussian smooth-bore muskets have been order to be sent me is received. It is not what I want. Give me the Springfield rifled musket and I will organize a reliable militia force in New Hampshire. An inferior arm will not answer the propose, for our citizens will not enroll themselves unless they can be supplied with the best arms.
