a Ten per cent. is taken as the approximate between number mustered in and number forwarded to field. This difference or loss results from desertions and discharges on account of physical disability, subsequent to muster in and prior to the men being ready to be forward to regiments and companies.

b The term being short, there were but few casualties from disease and battle between dates of muster in and muster out. The numbers mustered in and mustered out are therefore set down as the same.
