intended before hearing from you to have moved General Chambliss lower down near Pisgah Church, as there is nothing of consequence in upper Culpeper. If Averell is coming it will be necessary to keep this brigade here. General Chambliss has sent scouts toward Luray. The artillery has not reported as yet, but hope to see it to-day. Send a note just received from one of General Stuart's scouts. Please impress upon the general the necessity of sending me my other brigade as soon as it can be spared. Captain Bolling reports a brigade of Yankee cavalry opposite Morton's Ford.

XIII. Lieutenant Colonel J. R. Waddy is relieved from duty in Charleston, S. C., and will proceed without delay to Weldon, N. C., and report to General G. T. Beauregard, commanding, &c., for assignment.

XXI. First Lieutenant W. Gordon McCabe, artillery, Provisional Army, C. S., will proceed at once to the headquarters Army of Northern Virginia and report to General R. E. Lee, commanding, for assignment to ordnance duty under Lieutenant Colonel B. G. Baldwin, chief ordnance officer, &c.

XXV. The following-named officers of the Subsistence Department will report for duty to Major W. W. Morrison, commissary of subsistence, at Goldsborough, N. C., to collect subsistence stores in Eastern North Carolina: Major A. B. Garland, commissary of subsistence; Captain Henry Harney, assistant commissary of subsistence. Previous to reporting to Major Morrison, Major Garland will report to Major Tannahill, commissary of subsistence, at Petersburg, Va.
