KIDS TO THE PARKS
Over 4,000 local students visited Charleston area national parks this
school year on specially funded educational fieldtrips thanks to Fort
Sumter Tours, the National Park Foundation and Trust friends like
you. NPS Park Rangers build excitement with in-school visits and
personalized programs, connecting future stewards to these national
treasures: Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, and Charles Pinckney.
Let's keep discovering history!
ADOPT-A-CANNON
In March several donors and board members enjoyed a behind the scenes
tour of Fort Sumter with park staff, conservators from the Warren Lasch
Conservation Lab (think Hunley) and retired park historian Rick Hatcher.
They examined the three Civil War era cannon that received Trust-funded
preservation treatment this winter. Thanks to everyone who has made a
difference by supporting this significant undertaking.
CENTENNIAL CONCERT

In April, an evening reception/concert was held at Fort Moultrie in
honor of the National Park Service's 100th birthday. Guests of the park
and friends of the Trust enjoyed the moving music of Jay Unger and Molly
Mason as the sun set over the parade ground. Unger composed "Ashokan
Farewell", the haunting melody that weaves through the soundtrack of Ken
Burns' Civil War series. Unger also wrote a beautiful piece in
commemoration of Fort Sumter for the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.
Sponsored in part by First Citizens, the evening fundraiser was a unique
and memorable "thank you" for Park and Trust supporters.
