July 17. - In camp near Berlin; raining.

July 18. -Same as preceding day.

July 19. -Marched about 7 a. m. ; crossed the Potomac at Berlin, Md. ; passed through Lovettsville, Va. ; went into camp about 5 p. m.

July 20. -Marched all day; went into camp at 7 p. m.

July 21. -Shifted camp.

July 22. -Marched from camp in the field about 10 a. m. ; went into camp about 6 p. m., near Goose Creek.

July 23. -Started at daylight; arrived about 8 a. m. at Snickersville; left again about 10 a. m. ; passed through Salem, and went into camp about 11 p. m.

July 24. -Left camp at 6 o. clock, and marched in the direction of Manassas Gap; battery halted for two hours or thereabouts; proceeded in the direction of Orleans; battery in camp about 8 p. m. July 25. -Marched at 7 a. m. ; passed through Orleans; went into camp about 1 mile from Warrenton at 5 p. m.

NEAR NEW BALTIMORE, VA.,

August 16, 1863.

SIR: I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of this battery since the 28th of June, 1863:

June 28. -Battery marched at 5 a. m. 18 miles, and camped near Hyattstown, Md.

June 29. -Command marched at 5 a. m. 25 miles; camped at dusk at Sam's Creek.

June 30. -Battery marched at 6 a. m. 15 miles. Section under command of Lieutenant Rich attached to General Torbert's brigade, to bring up the rear of the column. Camped at 11 p. m. near Manchester.

July 1. -Broke camp at 9 p. m. ; marched during the night, and at 3 p. m. on the 2nd instant, parked near Gettysburg, Pa. ; marched 35 miles.

July 3. -Started for the front at 4. 30 p. m., and remained within supporting distance till 6 p. m., when took position to left of Gettysburg, supported by a portion of Brigadier-General Webb's division. Remained in position during the night.

July 4. -Still in position.

July 5. -Relieved at 5 a. m., and joined corps. At 10 a. m. marched to within 2 miles of Fairfield, Pa., 6 miles, and camped.

July 6. -Battery marched at 3 p. m. 16 miles; camped near Emmitsburg at 3 a. m. on 7th instant.

July 7. -Marched at 7 a. m. ; went 10 miles, and halted at 4 p. m. in road at foot of Cumberland [Catoctin] Mountains. Remained in road during the night.
