those galvanized chaps look down in the mouth and beg and plead, and when the fails they complain of a Government that don't protect them. Some Union men were murdered in the vicinity of Baker and Nine-Mile Creeks about one week ago by the guerrillas commanded by a man by the name of Porter. I hope to catch some of the gang, but may not be able.

Spurling, with 200 dismounted and 30 mounted men from the Second Maine Cavalry, well armed and with one day's cooked rations, will embark on an expedition to-morrow morning at 6 o'clock on the steamer Matamoras. Lieutenant-Colonel Spurling will receive his instructions from the commanding general.
