I hear of the enemy on this side and above Bonnet Carre. Keep your pickets on the qui vive, and all your force in hand. If your scouts give you any notice of the enemy and you communicate it to me in time, I have all the arrangements, and can concentrate all my force for your support. Lieutenant French, aide-de-camp, has gone with a steamer to move the Fifteenth Maine Regiment over to the papepet.
