The major-general commanding directs that Brigadier-General Benton be directed to take the command of the remaining part of General Steele's command and proceed with it to Brazos Santiago. These troops will be sent off as fast as transportation can be procured, General Benton superintendent the embarkation and proceeding with the last detachments.

Quincy, acting mayor of the City of New Orleans, having reported that the city comptroller doubts his authority to execute all the duties of his office, he is hereby directed to draw such warrants and perform all such other official acts as may be necessary to maintain the government of the city and secure public peace and public health, for which this shall be sufficient authority until official instructions shall be received from the Government at Washington.
